THE LOCATION: If you believe that shopping is cardio and cardio makes you hungry, then India is a vicious spiral and you’d better book a round trip plane ticket. This location is a throwback. Perhaps if I were not starting graduate school at Georgetown University this week, it may very well be current. This blurry flashback is to Charminar (literally, Four Towers) in Hyderabad, India. Charminar lies on the east bank of the Musi River, east of the Laad Bazaar and the Makkah Masjid. The intricately beautiful minarets and grand arches match the exquisite treasures found in the shops below.
THE LOOK: If you follow me on Instagram (@NYMANNEQUIN) you are well aware of my obsession with chunky necklaces. Well, this is the one that started it all. Found in the belly of Charminar seven years ago, this attention hungry necklace is made up of 5,370 beads. Wearing an outfit with a single canvas color allows the spotlight to stay on an extravagant piece like this while avoiding “effortless” (negative connotation). The canvas color here is purple, but it can really be any bold color you love. Simple nude pumps, these are by BCBG, will polish off a look like this and say “she’s not doing a lot, but she knows exactly what she’s doing.”
